Delivery Guide

Prepare for shipping container delivery with clear access, stable ground, placement markings, door orientation and current timing guidance.

This shipping container delivery guide helps you prepare the route, placement area and day-of-delivery details. Before dispatch, confirm the actual truck and carrier requirements, provide accurate site information, and keep the approach dry, stable and clear. The driver makes the final safety decision at the site.

Delivery readiness checklist

  • Confirm the container size, delivery method and appointment.
  • Provide a clear approach, turning area and straight-line runway.
  • Remove overhead wires, branches and side obstructions from the route.
  • Prepare a dry, stable and reasonably level placement area.
  • Mark the final position and required door orientation.
  • Keep a responsible contact available by phone and on site.
  • Have planned leveling supports ready when appropriate.

How Container Supcon delivery works

Container delivery may require specialized equipment and carrier coordination. The appropriate method can depend on container size, site access and placement. A tilt-bed or roll-off truck needs room to back into alignment, raise the bed and pull forward as the container settles. Some sites or configurations may require a flatbed, crane or other equipment arranged for the job.

Tell Container Supcon about narrow roads, sharp turns, soft ground, slopes, gates, overhead lines and restricted hours before scheduling. Photos of the approach and placement area can help identify obvious problems, but they do not replace the carrier’s site judgment.

Shipping container delivery clearance

20ft60ft12ft14ft
40ft110ft12ft14ft

These are the current guide’s planning minimums. The actual truck, trailer, turning radius, terrain and placement can require more space. Confirm access before dispatch. If the truck must turn while backing, allow substantially more usable area than the container footprint alone.

Review typical container footprints in the shipping container dimensions hub, 20ft dimensions guide and 40ft dimensions guide.

Ground conditions and level placement

The route and placement area should be dry, stable and reasonably level. Soft soil, mud, loose fill, snow, standing water or a steep slope can make a delivery unsafe or leave the truck unable to exit. The driver may decline or stop a placement that appears unsafe.

Foundation choices can include suitable compacted gravel, concrete or properly planned supports, depending on the site and intended use. Keep support points level so doors operate and the container frame is not unnecessarily twisted. Foundation design, drainage, anchoring and permitting are site-specific; obtain qualified local advice where needed.

Overhead and side obstacles

Walk the full route and look up. Power and communication lines, tree branches, roof overhangs and signs can become hazards as a tilt bed rises. Check both sides for gates, fences, parked vehicles, landscaping, structures and tight corners. Do not expect a driver to push through vegetation or enter a route that risks equipment or property.

Door orientation and exact placement

Decide which direction the cargo doors should face before the truck arrives. A tilt-bed placement can constrain orientation because the container slides from the rear of the truck. Mark the desired corner positions and share a simple site diagram or photos. Leave room for the doors to swing and for people or equipment to work safely.

Delivery-day checklist

  1. Keep the approach and placement zone free of vehicles, people and materials.
  2. Confirm gates are open and access permissions are in place.
  3. Have the site contact available at the scheduled time.
  4. Show the driver the marked position and door direction before unloading.
  5. Follow the driver’s safety instructions and remain clear of the unloading area.
  6. After placement, inspect the delivered unit and report visible issues according to the applicable policy.

Timing, coverage and scheduling

The current Shipping Policy is the source of truth. Container Supcon ships to eligible locations within the United States, with free standard delivery where the policy and order qualify. Current estimates are 1–3 business days for handling and 5–10 business days for transit, for an estimated total of 6–13 business days. These are estimates, not guaranteed delivery dates, and can change with availability, location, carrier coordination, weather and site access.

The policy uses a 2:00 PM Eastern order cut-off. Orders placed after the cut-off are processed on the next business day. Scheduling communication does not override safe-site requirements.

Inaccessible sites, failed delivery and special equipment

If the provided route or placement area is inaccessible or unsafe, the carrier may be unable to complete delivery. Additional attempts, waiting time, redelivery or specialized equipment can involve extra coordination and charges under the applicable order and policies. Contact Container Supcon before ordering when access is uncertain.

Review the Cancel Policy and Refund and Returns Policy before purchase. For product condition terminology, use Container Grades.

Frequently asked questions

How much room is needed for a 20ft container delivery?

Use 60 feet of straight-line space, 12 feet of width and 14 feet of vertical clearance as current planning minimums, then confirm the actual carrier requirements.

How much room is needed for a 40ft container delivery?

Use 110 feet of straight-line space, 12 feet of width and 14 feet of vertical clearance as current planning minimums, subject to confirmation.

Does the ground need to be level?

The route and placement area should be dry, stable and reasonably level. Site-specific foundation and drainage needs vary.

Can the driver place the doors in either direction?

Door orientation should be agreed before delivery. Truck alignment and unloading method can limit how the unit is placed.

How long does delivery take?

Current estimates are 1–3 business days handling plus 5–10 business days transit, or 6–13 business days total. Timing is not guaranteed.

What if the driver decides the site is unsafe?

The driver may decline or stop delivery. Contact Container Supcon to coordinate the next step under the applicable order and policies.

Plan access before ordering

Compare available containers, including 20 foot and 40 foot containers. If access is uncertain, send photos of the proposed delivery route and placement area and ask Container Supcon to review the plan before ordering.
